Understanding GEP and IP Programs in Singapore

GEP (Gifted Education Programme)

The Gifted Education Programme, or GEP, is a specialized program designed to cater to the educational needs of intellectually gifted students in Singapore. Here’s what you need to know:

Identification Process: Students eligible for the GEP are identified through a two-stage exercise in Primary 3. Those selected will receive an invitation to join the program in Primary 4.

Enriched Curriculum: GEP students follow an enriched curriculum that covers the same subjects as the mainstream program but goes deeper and broader. They learn valuable skills for independent inquiry and are encouraged to explore areas of personal interest.

Holistic Development: GEP students also have the opportunity to engage in various activities, including school-wide events, CCAs (Co-Curricular Activities), and Values-in-Action (VIA) programs, fostering holistic development.

Goals of GEP: The GEP aims to achieve several important goals, including developing intellectual depth and higher-level thinking, nurturing creativity, instilling a commitment to lifelong learning, promoting individual excellence, fostering a sense of social responsibility, and cultivating moral values and responsible leadership.

Primary Schools Offering GEP in Singapore

If your child is selected for the GEP, they may need to transfer to a primary school that offers the program. Currently, there are nine primary schools in Singapore offering the GEP. These schools include:

  1. Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) (Bukit Timah)
  2. Raffles Girls’ Primary School (Bukit Timah)
  3. Nanyang Primary School (Bukit Timah)
  4. Henry Park Primary School (Bukit Timah)
  5. Catholic High School (Primary) (Bishan)
  6. Nan Hua Primary School (Clementi)
  7. Rosyth School (Serangoon)
  8. Tao Nan School (Marine Parade)
  9. St Hilda’s Primary School (Tampines)

Note that there are no longer any GEP secondary schools, as most of them became IP schools with their own programme under School-Based Gifted Education (SBGE)
